Tan Tips

Exfoliate, moisturise! It's all about preparation.

If you hadn't guessed, it is important to exfoliate before you even think about applying tan. Keeping your skin in good condition will help the tan take to your skin better as well as making you soft and smooth. An exfoliator will gently remove dead skin cells and give you a brand new base to work on. Moisturising is also important and it is good to keep this up, if you do your skin will love you. When you see people with dry patchy tan, it is because they haven't exfoliated and moisturied so you can see why this is key. Don't be shy when it comes to moisturiser, you know the phrase apply liberally, well our advice is to slap it on and run it in until you feel like a baby's bum cheek. Especially slap it on to your dry areas, they need the most love and you don't want tan to gather in the creases.

Don't have an orange build up.

Put a bit of good old vaseline in your eyebrows and around your hairline to stop the tan gathering at the roots giving you carrot coloured hairs

Application importance.

Latex gloves or a tanning mitt are important accessories in the tanning process. If using a lotion, mousse or instant tan, you'll get a better coverage and avoid having your hands looking like a cross between a satsuma and some HP sauce. To tan the back of your hand use a cotton wool pad with a small amount of tanning lotion and avoid orange tinted palms. You know that part of your back that it is almost to reach, that awkward spot right in the middle, well unless you have an extra pair of hands to rub your tan in for you the easiest and most efficient way to apply your tan is with a back brush. It's a simplistic enough idea and you can get them from most places, its like a soft sponge attached to a stick. Easy peasy!

Buff away!

A buffing mitt will breakdown any build up of tan to give you an even coverage, and they are as cheap as chips. Dab gently and you won't have any variation in your shades of bronze.

Choose your outfit wisely.

Ideally you don't want to be going out in your base coat of fake tan but obviously this is a necessity on occasions. Make sure that you don loose dark clothing to stop your tan from smudging, and to stop any staining. Sometimes tan can smell a bit funny so older clothes are probably best.

Look after your tan, moisturise, polish and re-apply where necesary.
